Warning About HDMI Splitters

Just a heads-up for anyone considering purchasing an HDMI splitter (as opposed to a switch) to feed two displays. Stay away from all Y-cable dongles! These will not work with HDCP-compliant displays!

I took the plunge on a $10 HDMI to HDMI and DVI splitter from Monoprice, thinking it would work properly as long as one of the display devices was powered off. Well, I was wrong. The splitter won't pass video when *connected* to two HDCP-compliant displays-- forget about powering one off and crossing your fingers for the other.

If you need an HDMI splitter, be prepared to fork over $250 - $300 and stick with the ones from Gefen.

I just wish HDMI would go bye bye. My TV does not accept HDMI or DVI, which means no HD-DVD or Blu-Ray for me ... at least in HD.
